Sheath Blight and Its Management in Rice

چکیده

Rhizoctonia solani AG1-IA, is the most economically important disease in Texas and other southern rice-producing states. The disease is widespread and occurs every year. The disease was first reported in Japan in 1910, and was soon well established in many Asian countries (Lee and Rush, 1983). The pathogen is capable of infecting rice, soybeans, grass weeds, and hundreds of other plant species (Rush and Lee, 1992). The pathogen can survive and adopt to diverse environments worldwide. Thus, the disease occurs throughout rice production areas of the world, and has become one of the major biological constraints to rice production, the primary staple food for almost half of the world population.

Screening Oryza Species Plants for Rice Sheath Blight Resistance

Sheath blight of rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a major rice disease throughout the world including the southern United States. This disease, which is caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn (teleomorph: Thanatephorus cucumeris (Frank) Donk), was first reported in 1910 and now occurs throughout temperate and tropical production areas, being most prominent where rice is grown under intense, high-fertility ...

Sensitivity to a Phytotoxin from Rhizoctonia solani Correlates with Sheath Blight Susceptibility in Rice.

ABSTRACT Sheath blight is one of the most important and intractable diseases of rice (Oryza sativa) where limited control has been achieved using traditional approaches. Quantitative inheritance, extraneous traits, and environmental factors confound genetic analysis of host resistance. A method was developed to isolate and utilize a phytotoxin from Rhizoctonia solani to investigate the genetics...

Effect of Rice Blast and Sheath Blight on Physical Properties of Selected Rice Cultivars

Cereal Chem. 77(5):535–540 Observations in 1997 indicated a significant reduction in kernel bulk density and head rice yield of rice cultivar LaGrue due to blast (Pyricularia grisea). A more detailed study on rice cultivar M202 in 1998 confirmed such observations but it also showed negative effects of blast on other physical properties of rice. Rough rice from blast-infected panicles was drier ...

The Role of Antioxidant Enzymes in Adaptive Responses to Sheath Blight Infestation under Different Fertilization Rates and Hill Densities

Sheath blight of rice, caused by Rhizoctonia solani, is one of the most devastating rice diseases worldwide. No rice cultivar has been found to be completely resistant to this fungus. Identifying antioxidant enzymes activities (activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT)) and malondialdehyde content (MDA) responding to sheath blight infestation is imperative to ...
